Campaign Priorities
I am invested in this community and our students.
Advocacy
I have been in the trenches with teachers, parents, and students. We can do better at listening to parent and teacher concerns and making decisions that are best for our students that are not disruptive to teachers or families. I have volunteered side by side with teachers and parents on behalf of our students and have seen first hand how some decisions were made without including or listening to students, teachers, and parents in a meaningful way. My perspective as a parent of children in all levels (elementary, middle, and high school) will bring a necessary perspective to board decisions.
Students and Teachers as Funding Priorities
The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) makes it difficult for our district to provide all the desired programs and extracurriculars we want our students to have. With the pandemic, recent state senate bills mean our district is not receiving fair funds. We currently will not receive funds for 238 of our students (and counting). I will support the superintendent and board in lobbying for our district at the state level. I will devote energy and time to seek solutions to adequately fund our vision for students and keep our teacher salaries competitive. Teachers are invaluable to LUSD. We have trustworthy, committed, and professional teachers and they deserve the best compensation our budget will allow.
Fiscal Responsibility
I will support decisions that spend our funds wisely and provide the best opportunities for our students. I will devote time and energy to finding creative funding for our district so we can maintain our vision and high standards while remaining fiscally healthy. I seek to involve parent organizations and the community at large in a more meaningful way in finding creative ways to fund the vision we have for our students.
Safety and Mental Health—Especially During Covid
Physical and mental safety are equally important. Our students cannot achieve and learn to their best abilitiy if they do not feel safe at school. I support finding a way to bring mental health support to our schools. During Covid 19, I am committed to keeping students, teachers, and staff safe, and will support policies that practice safety when we return to school. Bullying can leave lifelong scars. I am committed to protecting bullied children and programs that help do that.
Fair Opportunities
I am committed to ensuring whichever K-8 school a student attends, they have the same opportunities to grow, advance, and engage in the extra curricular actiivties that interest them. I am committed to ensuring all learning types receive a fair education and leave our district prepared for whatever next step they choose to pursue be that college, trade, military, or other.
